The MY COACHING FOR YOU home page in German and in English side by side, at the top right the DE/EN language switch

Many of my tools and blog posts are now also being used and read outside the German-speaking world. That is why this website is now also available in English – at the same address with the suffix /en/, for example www.my-coaching4you.de/en/. In this post I briefly explain how the language selection works, what I paid attention to regarding data protection and how I maintain the language versions.

At a glance

  • All pages and all published blog posts are available in German and English.
  • The browser decides: if you have set a preferred language other than German, you see the English version.
  • At the top right of every page, you can switch the language yourself at any time with DE/EN.
  • No cookies, no tracking: the language selection works without storing anything.
  • The German version remains authoritative – especially for the legal notice, privacy policy, terms and conditions and cancellation policy.

How the language selection works

With every request, a browser tells a website which languages it prefers. If someone calls up a German page directly – for example via a search engine or a bookmark – and their browser has a language other than German set as its first choice, the server redirects to the English version of the same page. There is not yet a separate version for Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, French or Dutch; these visitors therefore also receive English.

It was important to me that nobody gets “stuck”: anyone who switches back to German using the language switch stays on the German website as they click on. Search engines are not redirected – they find both versions via the information in the page header and in the sitemap and can assign the right page to each language.

Data protection: language selection without cookies

This website sets no cookies and tracks nobody – the second language does not change that. The redirection uses only the information that the browser sends anyway and stores nothing additional. Exactly what is evaluated is set out in the privacy policy.

Translated with AI support

The English texts are translations of my German pages, produced with the support of the AI assistant Claude. In doing so, I defined technical terms from enterprise architecture, IT service management and coaching consistently, so that, for example, the 8-Ebenen-Modell is called the “8-Level Model (8EM)” everywhere. I point this out in the footer of the English pages; the legal notice, privacy policy, terms and conditions and cancellation policy additionally state that only the German version is legally binding.

How I maintain the language versions

I edit the website with my own website editor. It can now manage several language versions:

  • At the top of the editor I choose the language – German, English, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Dutch are prepared; further languages can be added.
  • The list of pages and posts shows where a translation is missing and where the German version has meanwhile become newer than the translation.
  • If a translation is missing, one click creates a copy of the German version as a draft. Only once I have translated and approved it does it appear on the website.
  • When I create a new page, blog post or menu item – whether in German or in English – it is created in both languages straight away: at first with the same text and the note “translation pending”. I can then translate it at my own pace, also with the help of a translation program.
  • If I later change the original version, a copy that has not yet been translated follows automatically. The editor never overwrites a finished translation; instead it marks it “review translation” so that I can carry the change over.
  • Until it is translated, the page is nevertheless already on the website in both languages: in the other language it shows the text of the original version with a clear note “not yet translated” and is not offered to search engines. Blog posts only appear once they have been translated.
  • I write links in every language just as in German; when the website is generated, they automatically point to the matching language version.
  • The editor’s own interface can also be switched to English with the DE | EN button – the website’s content is not affected.

My browser-based tools also have an English interface: switch with DE | EN at the top right. If you open a tool from an English page, it starts in English straight away.

Conclusion

With the English version, my content reaches more people without any compromise on data protection. If you notice anything unusual on the English pages, I would welcome a brief note via the contact form.
